ABOUT THIS BROND
PRODUCT INFORMATION

Brand: SHADY CHARACTER

Model: ARNIE

Color: Black

Size: 46-22

In the 1970s, two men who ran a vintage shop in Manhattan were captivated by Tart Optical's eyewear and approached Mr. Tart directly to launch the brand "Shady CHARACTER."

ARNEL was revived in 1979 as part of the James Dean Eyewear Collection.

ARNEL was chosen as the name of the collection because actor James Dean was a fan of the brand in the 1950s , but it was discontinued after a short period of time.

At the time, there were copyright issues and the James Dean Foundation sued the company , so the name of the collection was changed to Reble.

The name Reble comes from the title of a famous movie starring James Dean.

(Reble Without a Cause / James Dean died in a car accident one month before this film was released.)

The " James Dean Eyewear Collection " being released this time is being reissued as a limited edition box set.

Acquired IP rights from the James Dean Estate and published by Shady CHARACTER

This is a long-awaited collection.

ABOUT THIS BROND

SHADY CHARACTER originally began in the 1970s when Linda Rae Tepper and Steve M Abrams started the vintage shop "The Ruby Slippers" in Manhattan.

They were fascinated by the "ARNEL" and "FDR", the representative models of "TART OPTICAL" that they had in dead stock, and started to produce eyeglasses using molds made by "TART OPTICAL". Therefore, this brand, named "Shady Character", has many models inspired by frames from "TART OPTICAL".

In particular, a model of the same style as TART OPTICAL's ARNEL, which was released in 1979 under the name "James Dean EYEWEAR COLLECTION" and featured a reproduction of the double diamond rivets actually worn by James Dean, was very popular, but due to copyright issues it was only released for a short period of time, and despite being a later item than TART OPTICAL, it is now considered a fairly rare vintage frame.

Founders Linda R. Tepper and Steve M. Abrams are serving as advisors on this project, faithfully recreating the atmosphere of the time.
